HOW TO DEAL WITH BURNOUT

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by <3

Today I want to talk to you about burnout; what it is, why it happens, and of course, how to deal with it.

Have you ever experienced burnout? If you’re not sure, here are some surefire ways to know if you have suffered burnout in the past or possibly dealing with burnout right now.

1. LOSS OF INTEREST //

One of the biggest signs of burnout is losing interest in what you are passionate about. This cause can often be overlooked as the idea that the “honeymoon phase” of your passion has passed. However, if you truly do have a passion for something, it usually doesn’t just disappear.

2. MOODINESS //

For myself, when I start to get really grumpy and my mood begins to become erratic, I know that I am burnt out. Losing control of your once steady emotions usually implies that you are spending too much energy elsewhere and there is not enough energy left in you to control your mood.

3. WANTING TO ESCAPE //

When all you can dream about is that next vacation or even the next cold so you can take a couple days off, it’s time for a rest. When you are truly passionate about something, you will ride the high of that passion and do anything you can to continue moving forward. Once that high passes, you need to take a break from those waves before they completely exhaust you!

So, you’re dealing with burnout, now what? The best way to deal with burnout is to figure out what caused it in the first place and then go to the source to deal with it.

What causes burnout?

1. TAKING ON TOO MUCH //

So many of us, especially entrepreneurs, are the type of people that take on EVERYTHING and more. Every opportunity that seems fun, beneficial, helpful, etc, we take it on. We are constantly coming up with new ideas and running with them as we never know what idea will be the one that really launches us forward.

2. NOT FEELING APPRECIATED //

I work my a** off at almost everything I do, especially in my career. The majority of my burnouts have come from jobs where I was giving everything I had to help the company, pick-up slack, and basically getting sh*t done and then not feeling acknowledged for that hard work and/or not feeling supported when I needed help to get the work done.

3. NOT MAKING SELF-CARE A PRIORITY //

The biggest lesson I have learned from my many burnouts is that everyone is out for themselves. In my situations of burnout, I could have said no to the extra work. I could have stood up for the sake of my own mental health and been more demanding about getting more help around the office. I should have been putting myself first and I should have made self-care a priority.

So, how do you deal with burn-out?

1. LEARN TO SAY NO //

Saying no is super empowering. Give yourself a chance to digest the ask and decide if what someone is asking you to do is beneficial to your body, mind, soul, or business. If it’s not, then say no. If it is, but you don’t have time for it, then say no.

2. DO WHAT YOU LOVE //

There are always going to be times that we have way too much on your plate, no matter how you try to stop it. Have a self-care routine that you can rely on when things get really crazy. Make a list of all the things that you can do to help yourself feel better. Then when you are feeling frazzled and nothing seems like it will help, take out your list and try a few of the things on it.

3. REMEMBER YOUR WHY //

You took a specific job for a reason, you took on all those extra projects for a reason. When you are feeling burnt out, take some time to reflect on if your why is still the same as it was when you took the job, or when you took on all the extra activities and projects.

If your job and projects no longer serve the same why, then it might be time to let something go.
