Thanks for stopping by <3

Today I want to share with you how I stay healthy during cold/flu season. Please note, I am not by any means a health practitioner of any kind, these are simply my tips and tricks for staying healthy. As always, it is best to talk to your healthcare professional about any major changes in diet or routine.

After taking my Ayurveda training in September I learned a few new ways to stay healthy. I am creating a routine that works for keeping me healthy by combining some ayurvedic methods with some more western methods and I am now sharing this routine with you!

Here are my 5 tips for staying healthy during cold and flu season:

By all accounts, this has changed my life! I use my tongue scraper every single morning before I brush my teeth, drink water, etc. It keeps my mouth so healthy and clean and I can’t even imagine all the germs I am getting rid of! Knock on wood, I have not had a cold since I have started doing this!

Additionally, I went to the dentist last week and my teeth were still really clean, I didn’t even get in trouble for not flossing!! (I am not saying you can stop flossing if you use a tongue scraper, please floss!)

I can easily get away with 6 hours of sleep a night and still be a functioning human being. BUT, I usually end up getting sick after a few weeks of this. For me, 7-8 hours of sleep is the magic number.

I have been trying to get better at listening to my body. If I feel like I could go to bed, I put away what I am doing and go to bed. This works well for me as I am an early riser and am able to get done in the morning what I can’t finish at night.

This is an Ayurvedic drink that helps when your body is fighting infection. I started drinking it pretty regularly to help clear up my skin. It didn’t really help a ton with my skin, but it has helped keep me from getting a cold. It also tastes really yummy and I drink it as a treat.

I  blend:

1 cup milk
1 tsp turmeric
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp maple syrup (real)

After blending all the ingredients, I put the mixture into a pot and heat until just before boiling. Then drink warm.

Along with millions of other people, I suffer from IBS, which I have kept at bay by avoiding certain foods. Lately, my skin has been really bad and I generally felt gross. I started taking probiotics about a week ago now, and boy it has really helped me feel healthier and has helped my skin a ton!

I did a ton of research on it and it seemed to be something that would work well for me. Again, please check with your health professional before changing your diet.

It always comes back to these two simple steps. Moving and fuelling our bodies.

I always suggest finding an exercise that you like, whether running, biking, yoga, walking, tennis, etc. and eat foods that you enjoy but are also nutritious. You don’t have to eat and like every fruit and veggie under the sun, but eat more of the ones you like! Add them to your favourite meals, drink fresh veggie and fruit juices, eat fresh foods.
