HOW TO COMMIT TO YOUR DECISIONS
Thanks for stopping by <3
Have you ever noticed that when you make a decision to make a change in your life that the universe will begin to test you? Whether it’s a decision to eat healthier, save more money, or stay true to your schedule. The universe will send you opportunities to discard your new goal, it will test your new commitment.
I recently made a decision to step back from teaching so many classes. Before my hiatus I was teaching up to 21 classes per week. I was burnt out physically and mentally. While on my hiatus I re-evaluated my work life and my personal life. I decided that when I would return to work that my work life would look a lot different. I would limit the amount of classes I would teach/sub each week and stay true to a work schedule and only teach during certain hours of the day and not on weekends.
I have been very good about staying true to my new work standards. But, I have definitely been tested. Many opportunities have come up to pick up extra classes. But, if I want to grow my business and my brand, I actually have to spend time working on it! And, if I want to keep a better work schedule, I can’t be teaching 15+ classes per week and successfully building a business. My business is no longer a side hustle and needs my undivided attention.
So, how can you make sure you stay true to your decision to focus on a change in your life?
1. FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU WANT //
This sounds easy, but can be a challenging first step to the living the life you truly desire. In this step you will need to map out what your big goals are. Do you want to be earning more money? Are you trying to live healthier? Do you want to buy a bigger house?
I know for myself I became complacent with my day-t0-day life but I wasn’t actually working towards a specific goal. I genuinely thought I was hustling so hard towards something. But in all reality, I didn’t have a specific goal so what was I working so hard towards?
2. FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU NEED //
For myself, I needed to break down my goals into tangible, reachable goals. I needed a schedule that I could keep that would pay the bills, but also left me enough time to focus on growing my business.
If you’re looking to make more money or to buy a new house, you might need to ask for a raise, or consider getting a new job. If you’re looking to live a healthier lifestyle you might consider what changes you will need to make to your current lifestyle.
3. SCHEDULE IT OUT //
Most things can’t happen at the drop of a hat. If you’re going to ask your boss for a raise, you might need some time to put together a pitch to showcase to them why you deserve that raise.
If you need to find a new job, that’s going to take some time to find the job that will meet your requirements, to interview, to save up the money you need to buy your new house.
It’s best to plan out exactly how long it’s going to take you to save up the money you need to buy your house.
I highly suggest setting mini goals every month, 3-months, 6-months or 1-year to see your progress grow, to see your success at saving up to reach your goal!
For me, I am working to build my online studio. It takes time each week to record, edit and post my videos. It takes money and energy to advertise what the studio is offer. I can’t expect it to be a huge success overnight, but with some steady hard work, I will see the number of members grow!
To do this, I schedule in my time that I am recording and editing. This means that if subbing opportunities come up in that time frame, I have to say no. I have to say no to someone else so I don’t have to say no to myself.
4. TALK ABOUT IT WITH OTHERS //
Big goals require big commitment. It’s really easy to become discouraged, to want to give up. I very much believe in sharing your goals with others, whether it’s just one person or you shout it from the rooftops. Once you share your goal with someone, it becomes real and tangible in the world. You might even be surprised how others can help you reach your goal!
If a tree falls in the forest, does anyone hear it? I don’t know, but once you see it, you know it’s there, right? Once something is a reality, including stating your goal, you and at least one other person know about it. It’s real, it’s tangible.
What are you working towards right now? What help are you looking for in reaching that goal? Please share in the comments!
