"I don't believe in failure.."
I have never been someone to regret a decision because I don’t make decisions lightly. Since I don’t general regret my decisions, I don’t necessarily believe in failure. From a young age I learned a lot from so called “failure”.
Growing up I was a competitive swimmer. There was one meet that I competed in that I was disqualified from every race I had competed in. I was very understandable upset, frustrated, disappointed, and embarrassed. I had one more race left and I told my parents I just wanted to go home. I talked to my coach and my parents and they told me “so what if you get disqualified from every race? It doesn’t mean anything. The world isn’t going to end.” And you know what? I was disqualified from my final race and I left the pool deck laughing. So what? That meet was a huge lesson in my swimming career and something I have carried with my through my entire life. There are obviously moments in our lives that are much more serious, but a lot of the time, things aren’t such a big deal.
I recently read a quote that went something like, “if it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t spend more then 5 minutes worrying about it”. Such great words. Our lives can seem so tiny and everything is such a big deal, but in all reality, what really matters in the grand scheme of things?
What do you think about failure?
